THE WILD REINDEER ARE VULNERABLE AND NEED TRANQUILITY!

There is a flock of wild reindeer on Blefjell which counts about 150 animals. Important to know:

  • The calves are born in May, and the reindeer need tranquility in the period from 1 May to 10 June. The calves are still small and vulnerable in mid-July.
  • The reindeer can sense humans at about 1 km distance.
  • Running requires energy for them, and valuable time for grazing is lost.

The following precautions apply if you encounter reindeer during the race:

  • Stop if you encounter a flock or a single animal. Let the animals pass at their own pace.
  • Keep distance. Use zoom on camera instead of going closer.
  • Keep calm, avoid sudden movements and loud sounds.
  • If necessary, depart from the route in order not to disturb the animals.
